PANEL 1
Partnering to accelerate therapeutics

The scientific community needs better methodologies and tools for translating basic biological insights into validated therapeutic targets. There is currently a gap in the drug discovery and development pipeline that academic scientists often view as "too applied" and pharmaceutical companies often eschew as "too basic" to justify private investment. This panel will discuss how to leverage opportunities at the intersection of academia, startups, established industry and investment community.

How can we improve partnerships between technology transfer offices of academic research institutions, the entrepreneurial community, and established companies to shorten the pipeline of therapeutics?

PANEL 3
New techniques, tools and models for driving innovation

Revitalized impacts in both academia and industry will leverage new innovations both in research techniques and approaches, and in R&D finance and administration. Together, such innovations can create more exciting environments to attract the brightest scientists, and extend collaborations and co-invention beyond the walls of individual organizations. What are some examples of new models that are being attempted? How effective are they? What tools and technologies can be leveraged to help drive innovation in a meaningful manner in the present funding environment?
